3 minors stab 26-year-old Delhi man to death after dispute over cigarette
Eid celebrations turned into a tragedy for a family in North West Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area when a 26-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death following a petty dispute over a cigarette.
The victim, identified as Arbaaz, was a resident of C-Block in Jahangirpuri and worked at a local jewellery shop. According to his family, he was the sole earning member of his family.
The incident occurred around 11 PM on Thursday near his residence. While his family was celebrating the festival, Arbaaz got into an argument with some local youths. The verbal altercation quickly escalated, and the accused repeatedly stabbed him with knives, leaving him in a pool of blood.
He was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment. The sudden demise of the young man converted the festive atmosphere of his home into deep mourning.
“They had been planning to kill my brother for the past week. The dispute had started over a cigarette. When they found him alone in the lane, they pushed him and, when he resisted, they stabbed him with a knife,” said Mohammad Rizwan, the deceased’s brother.
He alleged that six minors and an adult were involved in the crime, and the adult was also involved in another murder case that occurred a year ago.
“My brother called me, saying that some boys had surrounded him and asked me to come quickly. By the time I reached, they had already cornered him and started assaulting him. I tried to pull the main accused away, but another boy stabbed my brother two to three times. The incident took place around 11 pm. There were six to seven people involved,” said Taufiq, another brother of the deceased.
Based on eyewitness accounts and local intelligence, the police later apprehended three minors in connection with the murder.
A thorough investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact sequence of events and understand how a minor dispute escalated into such a heinous crime.
In order to prevent any communal or local tension and maintain law and order, a heavy deployment of police personnel has been stationed in the area.
