Uttarakhand: 6 pilgrims returning from Adi Kailash killed as car plunges into Kali river

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conveyed his condolences and offered prayers for the families of the deceased.

Tragedy struck in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district on Tuesday as a major accident occurred late in the evening. Reportedly, a taxi fell into the Kali River near Lakhanpur on the Dharchula-Lipulekh road. This tragic incident resulted in the loss of six pilgrims’ lives who were returning from Adi Kailash after performing a pilgrimage. Pithoragarh’s Police Superintendent, Lokeshwar Singh, informed that due to darkness and challenging terrain, the recovery of the bodies has not yet commenced. The search and retrieval operation is scheduled to begin in the morning.

The victims hailed from various places, including two individuals from Bengaluru, two from Telangana, and two from Uttarakhand. In response to this tragic accident, Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, conveyed his deep sorrow over the loss of lives and offered prayers for the departed souls and strength to their grieving families.

In another incident, approximately ten days ago, a fatal accident occurred in the Chakrata region of Dehradun district, Uttarakhand. An uncontrollable jeep, while travelling from Tikari village in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, met with an accident. The jeep, carrying three passengers, lost control and fell around 200 meters below the main road. As a result, the individuals on board lost their lives. The victims were identified as Rakesh Kumar (26), Surjeet Singh (35), and Shyam Singh (48) from Tikari village, Shimla.
