UP: After 55-day trial, court sentences man to death for raping, killing 18-month-old girl
A man has been sentenced to death for raping and murdering an 18-month-old girl in Uttar Pradesh in June this year.
Lucknow: A court in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh has awarded death penalty to a 30-year-old man after finding him guilty of raping and killing an 18-month-old girl in June this year. The case proceedings, from the arrest of the accused to his conviction, concluded in just 55 days, making it one of the fastest convictions ever in the country.
The convict has been identified as Prashuram. He had committed the crime on June 22. The police nabbed him following an encounter, in which he sustained a gunshot injury to one of his legs. He was booked for rape and murder under the Indian Penal Code. Relevant charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were also invoked against him.
Police sprang up in action to gather evidence against the accused. “We ensured that all the evidence was collected and the chargesheet was filed in 28 days… While the samples were collected fast, new FSL a laboratory in Gorakhpur give DNA report in 37 days to make the case watertight,”.
The trial began before Additional Sessions Judge Nitin Pandey. Prashuram was convicted of the crime within eight working days. The court has sentenced him to death for the rape and murder of the infant girl.
The Bahriach police have been given a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh. Furthermore, UP DGP Mukul Goel said the case’s investigation officer will be given a commendation disc, and all supervisory officers, the FSL team and prosecution will receive appreciation letters.
In another incident, a three-month-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 17-year-old boy under the Bagwala police station area in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district.
The teenager allegedly raped the baby girl when her mother had gone somewhere for some work. When her mother came back, she found the baby girl crying and the boy was trying to calm her down. The boy fled after telling the woman that her daughter had pooped. The woman, thereafter, noticed that her daughter was bleeding from the private parts. She realised that the teenager had sexually assaulted her. After this, the girl was taken to a hospital and a case was registered against the accused.
