Tired of husband’s drunken antics, woman hacks him to death in front of their kids

Chennai: A woman in Tamil Nadu’s Kancheepuram allegedly hacked her husband to death in front of their kids. Reportedly, the woman was tired of her husband’s drunken behaviour and the same prompted her to murder him. After the incident, the woman went to the police station and confessed to murdering her husband.

Reportedly, the incident took place on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Nowshath. An autorickshaw driver, Nowshath got married to Raziya around 15 years ago and she converted to Islam. The couple had a nine-year-old daughter and a six-year-old son.

Man demanded money from his wife

Since the last few months, Nowshath had allegedly been pestering his wife for money as he used to spend all his earnings on alcohol. Raziya, who used to make ends meet by taking up odd jobs, had been giving money to her husband.

Nowshath, however, often returned home under the influence of alcohol and physically assaulted Raziya and her children. The woman often sent her kids to her neighbours’ homes whenever the accused assaulted them.

Man threatened to murder wife

At around 11 pm on Thursday, Nowshath returned home in an inebriated state and allegedly started fighting with her. When he picked up a butcher’s knife and threatened to murder Raziya, she rushed from the spot and locked herself inside the washroom. The accused kept banging on the door, asking Raziya to come out, The Times of India reported.

Meanwhile, the children woke up and started crying for their mother. Raziya came out of the washroom and pushed Nowshath down. She then snatched the butcher’s knife from his hand and attacked him. Nowshath suffered 18 knife cuts and died. The couple’s children ran to their neighbour’s home for help while Raziya went to the police station.

Raziya confessed to murdering her husband and said that he had been harassing her even after she left her family for him.
