OMG 2 box office collection Day 5: Akshay Kumar film posts its highest earning on Independence Day; earns Rs 73.67 cr

OMG 2 box office collection: The Pankaj Tripathi starrer is going strong at the ticket counters as it gallops towards Rs 100-crore club. The film registered its highest collection on Independence Day.

The Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam starrer OMG 2 witnessed its best day in the theatres on Tuesday, which happened to be the Independence Day holiday across the nation. The film grew manifold from its first day and earned Rs 18.50 cr on Tuesday, reported industry tracker Sacnilk. Currently, the film’s total collection stands at Rs 73.67 cr and going by its performance at the ticket counters, it might cross the Rs 100 cr mark by the coming weekend.

OMG 2 had a slow start at the box office as it earned Rs 10.26 cr on Friday. But it started picking up pace with positive word of mouth and registered a weekend collection of Rs 32.85 cr (Rs 15.3 cr on Saturday and Rs 17.55 cr on Sunday). Also, the film’s first Monday was better than its opening day as it collected Rs 12.06 cr.

OMG 2 had hit the theatres along with the actioner Gadar 2, which had a huge craze around it even before release. But, much to the surprise of the trade analysts, both the films managed to survive in the theatres simultaneously. Along with them, Rajinikanth’s Jailer is also writing new box office records every day. However, the real test of all three releases begins now when the Independence Day long weekend is over.

The film, written and directed by Amit Rai, is the second film in the OMG franchise, which was loved by the audience. Noting the upward trend in the box office numbers of OMG 2, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Sure, #OMG is a brand, but the love #OMG2 is getting is reflecting in its #BO numbers… This franchise has only enhanced its status in the eyes and hearts of moviegoers.”

On Monday, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) and Producers Guild of India (PGI) noted that the weekend which saw the release of OMG 2, Gadar 2 and Jailer, set a “new all-time theatrical gross box office record” in its 100 years of history. This came as a relief for the cinema exhibition industry which had been facing a difficult time since 2020 when the cinema halls were shut due to the coronavirus pandemic. Even after the reopening of the theatres, they found it tough to bring back people.

However, it seems like the dry spell at the ticket counters is finally over.
