Odisha Woman Delivers Twins, One In Train, Other On Ambulance, RPF Wins Praises For Quick Response

A woman, travelling in the general coach of the Rourkela-Gunupur Rajyarani Express, gave birth to two twin babies with the help of the Railway Protection Force. The woman went into labour inside the train coach and delivered one of the twins there.

When the RPF received information about this, they dispatched a women’s team to the coach as soon as the train reached Cuttack station at 6:53 AM in the morning. The woman was experiencing extreme pain while in labour for the second child.

The Railway Police force cordoned an area at the Cuttack station with cloth screens. A fellow passenger, who happened to be a pharmacist, stepped forward to provide first aid to the woman and her infant after a public announcement by the station authorities.

Following this, the woman was taken to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in an ambulance. She delivered the second child on the way.

At SCB Medical College and Hospital, both the mother and her children are reported to be safe and in a stable condition.

To facilitate the response to this emergency, the train remained unmoving at the Cuttack station for about 15 minutes.

The quick and appropriate response from the railway and security authorities has drawn praise from several quarters, including passengers and the public.
