Indian-Origin Man Charged In Crash That Killed His Pregnant Teen Girlfriend In US, To Face Deportation
The mother of a pregnant teenager, who was killed in a ghastly Range Rover Velar crash in Ohio, United States, has said she wants the Indian man charged over the incident to be “kicked out” of the country “permanently”.
A 33-year-old Indian-origin man — identified as Tarsem Singh — was reportedly in a relationship with 17-year-old Ashlee Holmes. He was the father of her unborn child, according to the deceased’s family.
At present, he faces multiple felony charges related to manslaughter, reckless homicide and aggravated vehicular homicide, in connection with the death of Ashlee Holmes and her unborn child. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has also lodged a detainer against Singh, implying that he could face deportation soon.
“Nobody should ever deserve to die while pregnant with their first kid,” Annette Holmes, the mother of the deceased teen, told the Newsweek.
She highlighted that Singh had been living in the U.S. illegally, adding she didn’t want him in the country anymore.
“I’m okay with him being kicked out of the country permanently. We came to find out he came here illegally at first. They can send him wherever he is best off because I don’t want him in the States no more,” she said.
Ashlee’s relatives told the Newsweek that she had tried to get out of the relationship multiple times but was unsuccessful.
What Is The Case?
On February 16, Tarsem Singh was driving a Range Rover Velar, with Ashlee Holmes as a passenger. The crash occurred after he attempted to escape law enforcement authorities, leading deputies on a high-speed chase that ended in a deadly collision with a Jeep.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s crash report, the vehicle was first recorded travelling at 79mph (127km/h) in a 55mph (89km/h) zone.
During the chase, the speed accelerated to over 120mph (193km/h) before the driver lost control and crashed into a Jeep, Newsweek reported.
Before the crash, the Range Rover overturned multiple times, throwing Ashlee out of the vehicle. She died after having suffered fatal injuries, and her unborn child also didn’t survive, said the report.
Tarsem Singh also got injured and was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment.
According to investigators, he entered the U.S. illegally in 2017 through the southern border in California. Later, he was arrested but a judge ordered his release on bond.
