Air Hostess On Ventilator Sexually Assaulted By Gurugram Hospital Staff
A 46-year-old air hostess was allegedly sexually assaulted at a private hospital in Gurugram where she was undergoing treatment.
In her complaint to the police, the woman alleged the incident took place when she was on a ventilator in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Medanta Hospital. “On April 6, I was on a ventilator when some hospital staff sexually assaulted me,” the woman’s complaint read.
The woman was admitted to the hospital on April 5 after falling ill following a swim in the pool of the hotel where she was staying. She remained under medical care until her discharge on April 9.
After returning home, she informed her husband about the incident, and the couple then approached the police. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at the Sadar police station against unidentified hospital staff.
A Gurugram Police spokesperson confirmed that the victim’s statement has been recorded before a magistrate and that an investigation is currently underway. CCTV footage from the hospital is being closely reviewed to identify the accused.
“The victim’s statement has been recorded before the magistrate in the court. The police team is examining the footage of the hospital’s CCTV cameras and will soon identify the accused,” the police spokesperson said.
As per the FIR, the woman was not in a condition to speak or resist the man’s advances because of her weakened condition. “There were two nurses in the room, but they did not intervene,” read the FIR.
The police spokesperson assured that the accused would be arrested soon.
In a statement, Medanta Hospital said, “We have been made aware of a complaint from a patient and have been fully cooperating with the investigations conducted by the relevant authorities. At this stage, no allegations have been substantiated, and all relevant documents, including CCTV footage from the hospital for the time period in question, have been handed over to the police.”
