Bus With 30 On Board Plunges 20 Metres In Himachal’s Mandi; 20-25 Rescued, 3 Still Trapped
Amid heavy rainfall, a private bus skidded off the road and plunged about 20 metres down a slope in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district on Monday. The accident took place in Patrighat village, under the Sarkaghat subdivision. Several passengers were reportedly injured in the incident.
Police have been dispatched to the scene, and DSP Sarkaghat Sanjeev Gautam has confirmed the accident. It is estimated that 25 to 30 people were on the bus, which was travelling from Jahu to Mandi when it fell into a ditch in Patrighat. Heavy rains have delayed relief and rescue efforts.
According to DSP Sanjeev Gautam, 20 to 25 injured passengers have been evacuated, while three others are trapped under the bus, necessitating the use of a crane. Videos from the scene show locals rushing to help the injured passengers, with some speaking about a person still trapped inside the bus.
Local residents were seen checking on a young man named Thakur, also known as Shabbu, who had sustained a head injury and was bleeding. The cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, including facilities in Ner Chowk. An investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway.
