A 29-year-old man from Mahbubnagar district of Telangana was allegedly shot dead by police in Santa Clara, California, following a scuffle with his roommate, his family members said on Thursday (September 18, 2025).

The deceased, Mohammed Nizamuddin, had moved to the United States to pursue his Master’s degree and had been living in Santa Clara since 2016. According to his father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, he was informed on Thursday (September 18, 2025) morning that his son had been shot by Santa Clara police and that his mortal remains were currently lying in a hospital in the city.

“I do not know the actual reasons why police shot him dead,” Mr. Hasnuddin said in a letter addressed to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, dated September 18. In his appeal, he requested the Minister to direct the Embassy of India in Washington D.C. and the Consulate General of India in San Francisco to inquire into the circumstances of the death and make arrangements to bring his son’s mortal remains back to Mahbubnagar.

Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan shared the father’s letter on X, urging the External Affairs Minister to intervene and extend all possible assistance to the grieving family.
