Pakistan seeks loans over ‘heavy losses’, later claims account was hacked
Pakistan’s government appealed on Friday to international partners, including the World Bank, for more loans, citing “heavy losses inflicted by enemy”, following military strikes by India on Wednesday, reported Reuters.
“Govt of Pakistan appeals to International Partners for more loans after heavy losses inflected by enemy. Amid escalating war and stocks crash, we urge international partners to help de-escalate. Nation urged to remain steadfast,” a post from Economic Affairs Division, Government of Pakistan, on X (formerly Twitter), read.
However, Reuters later withdrew its report and issued an advisory saying, “The story headlined ‘Pakistan asks international partners for loans, citing ‘heavy losses inflicted by energy’ is wrong and is withdrawn.”
“Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs said its X account, which carried the statement cited in the story, had been hacked,” it further read.
