Goa fire kills 25: Nightclub owners Luthra Brothers deported from Thailand, to reach Delhi this afternoon

The Luthra brothers, owners of Goa nightclub where a fire killed 25 people, have boarded a flight to India after being deported from Thailand.

They will land in Delhi at 1.55 pm and will be taken to Patiala House Court where the Goa police will seek a transit remand.

He will then be taken to Goa by the evening or night.

The officials of the central agencies Monday reached the location where the two brothers — Gaurav and Saurabh — were detained by Thailand authorities last week.

A fire at Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, owned by the Luthras, killed 25 people, including five tourists, in North Goa’s Arpora on December 6.

The Goa police said the brothers booked tickets to Thailand within 90 minutes of the blaze. In a statement, the Goa police had said the investigation revealed that the brothers booked the tickets at 1.17 am on December 7.

The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday took suo motu cognisance of commercial operations in illegally operating structures in the state, observing that it is “necessary to assign accountability to the authorities to prevent recurrence of such unfortunate incidents”. The High Court was hearing a petition filed by Pradeep Ghadi Amonkar and Sunil Diukar, pleading that despite several complaints, the authorities had failed to act against the illegal operation of Birch by Romeo Lane.
