Delhi witnesses 5 fire incidents in a day, authorities urge caution
Delhi witnessed a series of fire-related incidents across various localities in the city Thursday, prompting a response from the fire services, police, and emergency medical teams.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said they responded to a fire involving two buses and a car on West Delhi’s Pankha Road in Janakpuri at 5.28 am. Two fire tenders were rushed to the scene. DFS officials said no casualties were reported.
A house fire was reported in New Friends Colony East at around 9.40 am. As per the police, the incident was reported by Anisha Mittal, who said a fire had erupted when a sofa was being cleaned at her residence.
“It appears that while they were cleaning the clothes, the thinner caught fire. Two cleaners, Satish Kumar and Satender, sustained burn injuries. They were rushed to Holy Family Hospital and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital for further treatment,” said Hemant Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast).
While Satish sustained 20 per cent burns, Satender received 50 per cent burns. Four fire tenders and four ambulances were called to the scene, and legal action is underway, said the Delhi Police.
At around 11.13 am, an LPG cylinder explosion was reported to DFS from New Seelampur. However, DFS officials said when they inspected the area, no blast was found. They said a gas leakage from a small 5 kg cylinder led to a fire when a match was lit inside a hutment. Four people — Raj Kumar 70, Reshma, 50, Firdaus, 14, and three-year-old Durga — were injured.
All of them were taken to Jag Pravesh Chand Hospital, and Firdaus was discharged after treatment.
In a separate case at 1.11 pm, a house fire was reported in A-2 Block in Janakpuri. Eight fire tenders were dispatched, and no injuries or casualties were reported.
Later in the day, at 5.51 pm, a shop at Splendid Road in Chandni Chowk caught fire. Eight fire tenders responded, and no injuries have been reported so far.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing in all incidents. They also urged citizens to exercise caution when handling inflammable materials and cooking gas, especially in confined spaces.
