BSF to hold talks with Border Guards Bangladesh from August 25 in Dhaka

The next round of bi-annual Director General level talks between Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) will be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from August 25-28, the BSF said on Friday (August 22, 2025).

The previous round of talks were held in February this year, in New Delhi.

During the course of conference, discussions will be held on prevention against attack/assault on BSF personnel and Indian civilians by Bangladesh-based Miscreants/Nationals, prevention of trans-border crimes, construction of single row fence, action against Indian Insurgent Groups (IIGs) in Bangladesh, issues related to border infrastructure, joint efforts for effective implementation of Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP), Confidence Building Measures (CBM) among other issues, the BSF said.

In 2024, as many as 69 BSF personnel were injured in attacks by armed men, smugglers and other criminals along the Bangladesh border, while in 2023, the number of injured personnel stood at 74.

After the regime change in Bangladesh, there were several known incidents of the BGB stopping the construction of a single-row fence by the BSF. According to the Union Home Ministry, 864.48 km of the total border length of 4,096.7 km lacked fencing, and there were around 85 incidents of the BSF lodging protest with the BGB for carrying out construction in areas close to the border and within Indian territory.

The BSF may also raise the issue of illegal entry of Bangladeshis. In 2024, the BSF apprehended 3,474 Bangladeshi nationals illegally entering or leaving India, and in 2023 such apprehensions stood at 3,342.

The number of Bangladeshis apprehended at the border since the ouster of the Hasina regime in August last year stood at 2,330, as on December 31, 2024.
