Ashamed, sorry to all northeastern people: Accused in Delhi racial abuse case
Harsh Singh, one of the accused in the Delhi racial abuse case, has sought a public apology for allegedly throwing racial slurs at three women, belonging to Arunachal Pradesh. However, he also urged social media users to listen to both sides of the story before jumping to any conclusion. In an interview with India Today, Singh said that the facts are being misinterpreted in this case, and people are reacting without knowing the truth.
“I want to apologise for the entire incident and for the words that my wife used. However, the actual incident that occurred on the day is not reported. Stones, not dust particles, fell from their home as part of construction work, and when I went upstairs to address the issue, they first started abusing me,” Singh.
The apology came a few days after the couple grabbed national headlines for allegedly throwing racist slurs and derogatory remarks like “sex workers” at the Arunachali woman, an UPSC aspirant, and her two flatmates, residing in an apartment in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar. It is reported that the altercation between the two began while installing an air-conditioning machine at the latter’s flat. During the installation, some dusty debris fell on the balcony of Singh’s flat, which resulted in the breakout of the incident.
“We live on the fourth floor, and they live on the first floor. We had called an electrician to install an air conditioner. As he had to drill a small hole to fit a box, some dust fell onto the balcony of the neighbours on the ground floor. It was a minor issue, but they began abusing our electrician,” one of the Arunachali women told PTI Videos. She also said that all of them apologised for the inconvenience caused. However, the racial attack did not stop.
A video went viral on social media, where both Harsh and his wife, Rubi Jain, were seen allegedly making derogatory remarks. An FIR was registered against them, however, no arrest has been made till date.
